Arlovski (11-5) wants a big payday. However, the harsh reality is he’s a mediocre 2-2 in his last four and just hasn’t been impressive since 2005. A year ago, the UFC couldn’t afford to let Arlovski walk. Today, the heavyweight division has ample fire power, and doesn’t need Arlovski to make big fights.

Most analog hygrometers are manufactured with a tolerance of +/- 4-5% (or more) of humidity within the range of 40-80%. Although humidity gauges are supposedly pre-set at the factory, it's not unusual to find the calibration off once you get the unit home and placed in your humidor. If you want to see how accurate your hygrometer is, there is a simple, easy-to-do method you can use with items found right in your kitchen. All you need is some table salt, a sealed container (Tupperware™ type or ZipLock™ bag) and a plastic bottle cap.Place a teaspoon of salt in the bottle cap and add a few drops of tap or distilled water to moisten it. Don't overdo it. You don't want to dissolve the salt. Add only enough water to dampen the salt. When water is added to common table salt, it will maintain an exact 75% humidity in a perfectly sealed environment.Carefully place the salt and your hygrometer into the airtight container. (Try not to get any moistened salt on the gauge.) Check the unit to assure its current reading is somewhere in the 40% to 80% range.Seal the container tightly but don't try to remove any remaining air trapped inside. Now, wait for at least several hours until the environment has stabilized (this could take up to 6 hrs.). Do not open the container. Read the gauge's humidity % level. It should be exactly 75%. If it is not, note the deviation as being the amount your hygrometer is out of calibration. If for example, it reads 65%, the gauge is 10% low. If it reads 80%, the gauge is 5% high.Carefully remove the unit from the container/bag. Assuming your hygrometer has a calibrating screw on the back (most better ones do) take a very small flathead screwdriver and turn it slowly while watching the dial on the front. If your gauge was low by 10%, turn the screwdriver so the dial is set 10 percentage points higher than it was previously. Conversely, if your gauge was high by 5%, turn the screw in the opposite direction to set the dial 5 percentage points lower.Your gauge should now be properly calibrated, which will help you maintain a healthier overall environment for your cigars. If the gauge does not appear to be moving, try blowing warm, moist air into the back of it. One other thing you can do, which is also another way to test the unit, is by wrapping the hygrometer in a warm, damp paper towel for about 30 minutes or until it reads about 80-90% +/- a few points.

You can use several different methods of fire to light it, but whatever you use, light the cigar gently, evenly and slowly. Don't rush it! This is supposed to be a relaxing experience.Hold the cigar horizontally."Warm" the cigar by holding the flame underneath the end in direct contact with the cigar. (FYI, the hottest part of the flame is the white tip, so be careful not to ignite the wrapper.)Slowly rotate the cigar until the end is evenly charred over the entire surface.Next, put the cigar in your mouth and hold the flame just close enough to the end without letting the flame touch it (about an 1/2"). Draw on the cigar slowly while rotating it until it is EVENLY lit. (Drawing too fast will oxidize the tobacco making it taste bitter.)Gently blow on the glowing end to make sure it's burning evenly and you're done!This entire process can take up to a minute, but the cigar will taste the way it's supposed to taste and will help prevent an uneven burn. Remember, it's better to take your time in the beginning and you will enjoy the cigar longer, too.

How did you sleep that first night? I didn't really sleep. We switched hotels, and the hotel offered to put the ball in their safe, in the bank manager's office. I didn't really like that idea. So I went up to the suite, and there was this electronic lockbox. I put it in there, put in the combo, took a deep breath...you know, like, whew. I took a shower, made some phone calls, came out, changed the combo, went downstairs, got some champagne, came back up, changed the combo again, and spent the rest of the night in front of the door. Paranoid. Paranoid. Paranoid. They're coming to get me at any minute now, and I'm going to fight them off. We put it in a safe deposit box the next morning.

UFC 75 conference call recap, Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been dropped from the UFC following his actions at this past Saturday’s UFC 74 event.UFC President Dana White confirmed that the fighter has been cut from his contract after initially refusing to break a chokehold on opponent David Heath and then admitting it during a post-fight interview. Sobral told the sold-out crowd in the Mandalay Bay Events Center that he wanted to “teach (Heath) a lesson” for disrespecting him during the previous day’s weigh-ins.

Former No. 1 NFL draft pick Tim Couch had doping regimens that called for anabolic steroids and human growth hormone, according to documents obtained by Yahoo.com.Couch, cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this month, told Yahoo.com he used HGH for about a week, under a doctor's care, in hopes it would help him recover from shoulder surgery. He denied using steroids or any other banned drugs and said he had never seen the documents.

Craig, a firm gay marriage opponent, was arrested in June at an airport's men's bathroom and has pleaded guilty to misconduct, The New York Times reported Tuesday. Craig, 62, has been fined more than 500 U.S. dollars and placed on unsupervised probation for a year, according to the report. A 10-day jail sentence was suspended, according to a copy of a court document in the case. A second charge, interference with privacy, was dismissed.

The old saying that the rich get richer is very true. As long as you manage your money well, it's far easier to make money if you've already got some cash socked away than it is to start from scratch. The reason is simple: compounding. When you've already got money working on your behalf, each percentage point of return simply adds that many more dollars to your account balances. After all, if a stock you own goes up in value, it's far better to own 10,000 shares than it is to own 100.

UFC President Dana White today confirmed in a media conference call that UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture’s broken arm will probably keep him out of action until early 2008. Additionally, White said it’s possible that Couture could headline a SuperBowl Weekend card in February upon his return.

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes is starting his own fight team and will soon open a 13,5000-square-foot gym in Granite City, Ill. However, despite a flood of rumors, Hughes’ departure from his longtime home with Pat Miletich Fighting Systems was on completely amicable terms.The gym, which is named H.I.T. Squad (Hughes Intensive Training), will be a launching pad for new fighters, as well as veteran mixed-martial artists looking for a new training center. Additionally, Fiore said the elite fighters will be asked to join the gym’s official fight team: Team Hughes.

YouTube is showing some love to songwriters and music publishers by inking a deal with a UK licensing group, agreeing to pay royalties for songs used in videos on the site. YouTube will pay a flat fee for the ability to license 10 million pieces of music.

JB over at Crunchgear has the exclusive on the "upcoming" Google Phone, supposedly set to launch in Q1 2008. His source is someone inside HTC, the company that Google's working with to pick one of 20 models to finalize their design. On the software side, they're going to build a special version of Google Maps (complete with GPS), as well as have Gmail and Calendar compatibility. It's most likely going to have Google Docs compatibility too, but that wasn't specified. What's even cooler is that Google Talk, their free VoIP app, will be part of the suite. The OS could be Windows Mobile 6, or it could be a Linux-based OS, which would be even more interesting.

The latest Apple rumour swirling through the Web centres on talks between Apple and Volkswagen, two companies reportedly planning to co-create a futuristic iCar. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone following Apple’s commitment to auto-tech. Digital Journal — Apple is already dominating your computer, media player, and cellphone. What’s next? Filling your driveway with an Apple-branded car, according to the German press. Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Volkswagen chief Martin Winterkorn are supposedly in discussion to build a series of vehicles, reports German magazine Capital (written in German, translate here). The two industry giants met in California recently, and while the talks are in their early stages, Apple and Volkswagen are reportedly planning to cooperate on developing VW compact cars that will include Apple products.

San Francisco - A new email urging recipients to watch a video of themselves on YouTube actually directs them to a fake site that infects their computers and turns them into spam machines, security experts warned Tuesday. A hacker group known as "Storm Botnet" began dispersing the emails over the weekend. One such email is headlined "OMG, what are you thinking," and reads: "this i [sic] not good. If this video gets to her husband your both dead. see for yourself..." It then provides a link to a purported video. Alternative subject lines read, "LMAO, your crazy man" and open up to text that alleges, "You can see your face right in the video. its all over the web dude. take a look, lol."

Prosecutors have asked the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to evaluate the 53 pit bulls taken from Vick’s kennel. The dogs, which were considered evidence in the dogfighting case against Vick and three other men, have been housed at shelters in Virginia since Vick’s property in Surry was raided in April. All the defendants have pleaded in the case.

A Geneva-based group reports there are nine guns for every 10 people in the U.S., totaling 270 million firearms in circulation. Citizens worldwide own three-quarters of the total arms available.The report from an annual Small Arms Survey from a Geneva-based group says worldwide there are about 650 million arms, handguns to semi-automatic rifles. This amount exceeds the amount of guns held by police and militaries. Citizens own three fourths of the total arms available in the world.

- White said that he’s been meeting with Fedor’s people for months and that he hopes to have an announcement soon, but he seemed to downplay a report that said a deal could be reached today.- Henderson said that he needs to watch out for Jackson’s knockout power and that fans should expect a war.- Bisping said that there’s not really bad blood between him and Hamill, but that he’s not definitely “not keen on the guy.” Hamill is participating in the call through an interpreter.- White said that UFC 75 is on cable TV because he doesn’t want to be like boxing where only the good fights are available at a cost on pay-per-view. He specifically mentioned ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” as a model to showcase some top UFC talent.- White said he “fu*ked up” by showing UFC 72 live on pay-per-view during the afternoon because people tuned in later that night expecting to see the event. (The event took place in Northern Ireland.)- Henderson said that Jackson is going to be tough all-around and that he expects to go the full 25 minutes for the fight. He said he understand Jackson is explosive and a little bit bigger than him. Someone talked over Jackson, but I think he said he’s a whole lot “prettier” than Henderson too.- Henderson said he hasn’t thought much about what weight class to fight in after this fight. He said he’s only thought about his upcoming fight but that he doesn’t like fighting bigger guys.- White said that Babalu has been cut from his contract because of the episode this past weekend at UFC 74. He said if Babalu had held onto a leg or arm — rather than a choke — extra long that the results could have been a lot worse.- White said that win or lose, Henderson will be considered one of the top one or two contenders in the middleweight division. He said that he won’t know if he’ll get an immediate title shot with Anderson Silva or Rich Franklin until they have a better idea of the landscape of the division.- White said that he has “no clue” what he’s going to do with the lightweight division if Sherk’s appeal is denied.- Jackson said his life hasn’t changed much since winning the title because he’s been so wrapped up in training. He said training in Big Bear was excellent and that he and Bisping were “whoopin’ some ass up there.” He said he was in good shape after the Liddell fight so he was able to start full training immediately.- Jackson said the time difference in London won’t be a big problem because he’s already been in England for two weeks. He said he’s taking the fight more seriously than any other one of his career.- White said “Babalu” has been cut from his contract but won’t rule out having him in the organization in the future. “I never say never,” he said.- Bisping said there’s a benefit fighting in his home country because he has his whole support system there with him.- Hamill said he doesn’t have too much concern for Bisping other than his kicks.- White said he doesn’t know what the future of PRIDE will be and that it’s far more complicated than anyone realizes. He called it a “nightmare” and said it went out of business for a reason. He said he’s trying to get the PRIDE fighters fights now until they get the company all figured out. As far as the future of PRIDE coming back someday, White said Japan is a complicated place to do business and that he now knows that better than ever.- White said that the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is just as good, if not better, than last year’s.- White congratulated Henderson. He and his wife had a baby girl last night.- White said he wants to keep PRIDE alive. He said, though, that it’s an option to shut it down and just have a couple UFC fights in Japan a couple times per year. He said he has no idea when the PRIDE mess may be figured out.- White said he hasn’t signed Ryo Chonan.- Because it’s on free TV and because the guys already beat Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, White said that the Jackson-Henderson fight is one that fans should be crazy about it.- Bisping reiterated that he’s fighting Hamill, even though some people think it’s a step down in competition, because it’s what the fans want and what the UFC offered him.- Couture’s next opponent is not yet known. White said there’s a lot of competition, and since he doesn’t fight until early 2008, there’s always a chance that Fedor gets the fight. He said Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will probably fight before the end of the year, and that he or his opponent could fight Couture.- White said he doesn’t “give a sh*t” what Josh Barnett says about anything, including his recent comments about Couture being a paper champion.- White said he doesn’t know who the winner of Jackson/Henderson will fight next.- White said he’s spoken to Denis Kang but that he’s not one of the biggest fighters to come out of PRIDE.- Bisping says he looks forward to fighting a world-class wrestler and beating him so he can move on and know he can handle someone of that caliber.- Hamill said he’s spent the last two years working on his striking and that he’s confident in his striking.- White said Sobral knows he’s been cut from the organization and that he’s sure that he’s not happy about it. White said that despite the tone of past interviews, he was always planning to cut Babalu from the organization.

In the swirling waters of today’s mixed martial arts landscape, MMAWeekly has learned that Dean Lister is the latest fighter to join UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture’s camp and is planning a return to the Octagon as part of the UFC’s Dec. 29 event.According to Lister’s manager, Jerry Villasenor, no opponent has been named yet for Lister’s return bout. He did say that Lister would like to face the winner of the Oct. 20 middleweight title bout between Rich Franklin and Anderson Silva that is slated to take place in Cincinnati. Lister lost his last bout by unanimous decision to Nate Marquardt earlier this year, however, so it is unlikely that the UFC would give him an immediate title shot upon his return.Regardless, Lister, regarded as one of the top grappler’s in the world today, is currently in Croatia training with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic to improve his standup and to help Cro Cop with his ground game.
